Heating and Heat Pump Service in Greater Jacksonville

Heat pump repair, replacement, and fall tune-ups so your home is ready before the first cold snap.

Heating service for heat pumps and electric strip systems

Most Northeast Florida homes heat with a heat pump or electric strip heat, and Fouraker Mechanical services both. When a cold front hits and the heat will not come on, we diagnose it fast, explain the fix honestly, and get you warm the same day whenever possible. We also install and replace heat pump systems sized for our mild winters and long summers, across Greater Jacksonville, Nassau County, and Baker County.

What We Offer

Heating Repair

Cold air from the vents, a heat pump stuck in cooling mode, a system that runs but will not warm the house, or a blower that will not start. These are the winter calls we run every week. Our trucks carry common heat pump components so most repairs are wrapped up on the first visit with upfront, written pricing.

Heat Pump Installation

For most Florida homes, a modern heat pump is the right call. It cools all summer and heats efficiently through our mild winters on a single system. We size every unit with a Manual J load calculation, handle the line set and electrical work properly, and commission the system before we leave. Old equipment is hauled away the same day.

Heating Maintenance

Our fall tune-up gets your heat pump ready before the first cold snap. We test the reversing valve, run the defrost cycle, check refrigerant charge in heating mode, test the heat strips under load, and verify every electrical connection. You will not be scrambling for a repair call when temperatures drop into the 30s.

Why heat pumps make sense in Northeast Florida

Our climate rarely dips below freezing for long, which is exactly the sweet spot where a modern heat pump outperforms a traditional AC-plus-strip-heat setup.

  • One system for both seasons: The same equipment cools from April through October and heats through the short winter.
  • Lower winter bills: A heat pump moves heat instead of making it, so it uses far less electricity than resistance strips for the same warmth.
  • Backup built in: Electric strips stay in the air handler for the handful of nights that drop near freezing, and for the defrost cycle.

We will run a load calculation and give you the numbers so you can decide without the sales pitch. Our heat pump comparison guide covers the trade-offs in detail.

Heating problems we see every winter

Heating calls in Greater Jacksonville cluster around the first real cold snap, and most of them trace back to a few components.

  • Cold air in heat mode: A failed reversing valve, a refrigerant problem, or a system stuck in defrost. The heat pump is running but not reversing.
  • Aux or Emergency Heat always on: The heat pump side has failed and the strips are carrying the whole load. The house is warm but the bill is not.
  • Outdoor unit iced solid: A failing defrost board or sensor, or low refrigerant. A little frost is normal; a block of ice is not.
  • Burning smell at first start: Usually dust on the heat strips burning off, which clears in minutes. If it continues, shut the system off and call.
  • Breaker trips in heat mode: Heat strips draw a lot of current. A weak breaker, a failed sequencer, or a shorted strip element will trip it.
  • Blower runs but no heat: A failed sequencer or limit switch on the strips, or a thermostat wiring fault.

Inland winters are colder than coastal ones

Fernandina Beach and Yulee get mild winters moderated by the ocean. Macclenny, Baldwin, Hilliard, and Callahan sit far enough inland to see colder nights and more frost.

That matters for heating in two ways. Inland heat pumps spend more hours near the temperature where auxiliary strips kick in, so a properly working defrost cycle and correctly sized strips make a bigger difference on the bill. And on the larger rural properties around Baker County, a dual-fuel setup with a propane furnace as backup is worth pricing both ways. We service and install both configurations.

What the fall tune-up actually checks

A heating tune-up in September or October is the cheapest way to avoid a no-heat call in January.

  • Reversing valve operation in both directions
  • Defrost board, outdoor sensor, and a forced defrost cycle
  • Refrigerant charge verified in heating mode
  • Heat strips tested under load, including the sequencers and limit switches
  • Thermostat run through a full heating cycle, including the auxiliary stage
  • Electrical connections tightened after a full cooling season of vibration
  • Filter, blower wheel, and airflow check

Our maintenance plan bundles this fall visit with the spring cooling tune-up, 10% off repairs, and priority scheduling.

Replacing a heat pump in 2026

A heat pump that struggled through last winter, needed a refrigerant top-off, or is 12 to 15 years old is a replacement candidate, and fall is the right time to do it.

One thing changed this year: the federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, which covered up to $2,000 toward a qualifying heat pump, only applied to equipment placed in service before December 31, 2025 (IRS). It is not available for a 2026 install, so correct sizing and equipment selection have to deliver the savings on their own.

We install Goodman as our primary brand along with Daikin, Carrier, and Trane, size every replacement with a Manual J load calculation, and offer financing through FTL Finance with options for homeowners across a range of credit situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should my heat really cost this much to run in January?

If your home relies on electric strip heat, or your heat pump has failed and the strips are carrying the load, yes, the bill will spike. A working heat pump uses far less electricity for the same warmth. We can tell you which situation you are in on one visit.

My heat pump is blowing cold air in heat mode. What is wrong?

The most common causes are a failed reversing valve, a refrigerant issue, or a defrost board problem. All are diagnosable on the first visit. Call us and we will walk you through what to check before rolling a truck.

Is steam coming off my outdoor unit normal?

Yes, on cold, damp mornings. The system is running a defrost cycle to melt frost off the outdoor coil. A coil that stays caked in ice for hours is not normal and needs a service call.

When should I use the Emergency Heat setting?

Only when the outdoor unit has failed and you are waiting on a repair. Emergency heat runs the electric strips alone and is the most expensive way to heat your home.

Do you service gas or propane furnaces?

We service dual-fuel systems that pair a heat pump with a propane or gas furnace as backup. Call us with your equipment details and we will confirm we can help before scheduling.

How long does a heat pump last in Florida?

Typically 12 to 15 years with regular maintenance. Coastal units near Fernandina Beach often run shorter because of salt air corrosion, and inland units that skip maintenance fail earlier too.

Do you offer financing on heat pump replacements?

Yes. We offer financing through FTL Finance with a fast application and options for homeowners across a range of credit situations.
